Publication in the anthology Migration and Border Policy in Europe

The anthology "German and Polish Perspectives on Migration, Refugee and Border Policy in Europe" has been published by Berliner Wissenschafts-Verlag. The book analyzes German and Polish migration experiences in a European context.

Jan Schaller from the TRAWOS Institute at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences examines political radicalization in East Germany. His chapter focuses on the rise of the far-right AfD and the establishment of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). The analysis shows that historical factors such as decades of emigration, socio-economic disparities and alienation from federal politics have shaped a distinct political landscape in eastern Germany.

A central paradox: despite low migration figures compared to West Germany, resentment towards migration is particularly pronounced - fueled by structural and cultural differences.

This volume brings together contributions from political scientists, sociologists, economists and legal experts from Poland and Germany. Special thanks go to the editors Aleksandra Matykiewicz and Dorota Gierszewski Uniwersytet Jagielloński Krakow.
