The HSZG supports Christopher Street Day in Zittau and Görlitz.
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences stands for diversity, respect and mutual appreciation. As an educational institution, we have a responsibility to create an open and safe space for all people - regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or lifestyle.
Christopher Street Day is a reminder that equality and acceptance cannot be taken for granted, but are the result of continuous commitment. We support the CSD in Zittau and Görlitz because we are convinced that participation, diversity and equality enrich our university, our research and our society.
With our solidarity, we are taking a stand against discrimination and for an inclusive community. We want to encourage students, teaching staff and employees to stand up for freedom and diversity.
As student representatives, we stand by the LGBTQIA+ community and call on everyone to be courageous and contribute to the visibility of queer people in rural areas. Especially in our region, everyone should be able to live and study in a self-determined way, free from discrimination and without fear. Freedom, equality and respect must not be empty promises.
"We are committed to actively living and protecting diversity at our university and beyond. For this reason, we welcome queer projects and initiatives. We want an open culture of support, supported by our university community and its partners in the city and society. It is important to us that common achievements are not always up for debate and that we can focus more on removing obstacles in the everyday lives of queer people," adds Tom Richter from StuRa HSZG.
As the Office for Gender Equality, Inclusion, Women's and Diversity Studies (AGIFD) at the HSZG, we are committed to creating non-discriminatory structures and enabling equal participation for all students and staff. Equal opportunities is a central cross-sectional task that affects studies and working conditions as well as teaching, research and the active shaping of society, the economy and culture.
The voices, needs and perspectives of LGBTQIA+ are naturally part of our open-minded university community. Diversity is not only a social value, but also an essential basis for creativity, innovation and gaining scientific knowledge. Different perspectives enrich the discourse and help to develop better solutions to the challenges of our time.
Christopher Street Day reminds us that science can only flourish where all people can live freely, visibly and with respect. And we see it as our responsibility to actively help shape these conditions.
Cordula Lasner-Tietze, Equal Opportunities Officer at the HSZG, sums it up as follows: "Equal rights are an essential pillar of our basic democratic order and are therefore firmly anchored in social life. It is up to us to strengthen this framework of values and work to make it a reality for all people."
As on September 6 in Zittau, the CSD will take place on September 27 in Görlitz/Zgorzelec. We support all members of the university in setting an example for diversity and equality.
