Konrad Kutt and the Institute for Sustainability in Career, Work and Culture (INBAK), which he founded in 2010, provided the basis for the practice-oriented two-semester course " Project Development/Project Studies" from 2016 to 2024, two-semester course "Project Development / Project Studies" in the Social Work degree program at the Faculty of Social Sciences and were multipliers for numerous students in the development of regional practical projects for the conversion of former telephone booths into public and free bookcases, from which the Sustainable Book BoXXes in Zittau, Görlitz, Zgorzelec and Ostritz emerged. The interlocking of community work as an integral part of social work, with sustainable aspects of economy and ecology, has opened up a broad spectrum of civic participation.
The Zittau BücherboXX was the first permanently installed street library in a public space in the region, following the temporary installation of trial BücherboXXes, in which students initially carried out social space analyses and feasibility studies in Görlitz, Zittau and Zgorzelec in Poland. The project implementation was consistently based on the idea of involving young people as part of their vocational training and bringing them together on an interdisciplinary basis. In 2019, young trainees were brought together with their training trades at the Zittau vocational school center, bao GmbH Zittau and the KIA training program at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and were able to put their skills to the test on a special educational object. The Zittau BücherboXX was publicly inaugurated on the Zittau market square at the end of October 2019.
The campus book box on the Zittau university campus was also inspired by the idea and expertise of the "Sustainable Book BoXX" developed by Konrad Kutt and INBAK.
