Lusatian expertise in the Fourth Gender Equality Report

TRAWOS Institute contributes to equality in the socio-ecological transformation!

The TRAWOS research projects play an important role in the German government's Fourth Gender Equality Report, which pays particular attention to gender equality in the socio-ecological transformation. The report, published in March, particularly emphasizes the expertise from Lusatia when it comes to gender equality policy challenges in rural areas and transformation regions. A central theme of the report is equal opportunities for women and men in social change. Lusatia in particular, which is undergoing structural change from a coal region to an innovation region, is testing innovative approaches to gender equality. The research at TRAWOS provides important impulses for the analysis and recommendations for action in the report. The following research and transfer activities of the TRAWOS Institute are highlighted:

Two activities that emerged from the TRAWOS project "F for Strength" are mentioned as examples. On the one hand, the position paper published with the support of Marie Melzer, Julia Gabler and Pauline Voigt by the municipal equal opportunities officers of Lusatia and, on the other, the project "Women as an economic factor for Lusatia. Women's perspectives on structural change in Lusatia" under the project management of Professor Raj Kollmorgen, Marie Melzer and Pauline Voigt and in cooperation with Wirtschaftsregion Lausitz GmbH. Markus Will and Professor Raj Kollmorgen contributed further TRAWOS expertise to the Federal Environment Agency's final report "Sustainable municipal development in structural change". The paper"On the (data) situation of women in structural change in Lusatia", published in 2023 by Julia Gabler and Sinziana Schönfelder in cooperation with the ifab - Institute for Applied Participation, also attracted attention. This paper identifies data gaps and emphasizes the need to take greater account of women as active players in structural change. The alliance of municipal equal opportunities officers in Lusatia, which was supported by the TRAWOS Institute for several years, published an updated position paper in July 2023 in collaboration with TRAWOS member Julia Gabler, among others. The paper formulates demands for a gender-sensitive database, training for managers on the topic of gender equality and comprehensive participation of the population in the structural change process.

These diverse initiatives underline the TRAWOS Institute's commitment to shaping structural change in Lusatia in a gender-equitable way and have now been recognized at federal level.
