About the degree program

In a world in which communication is becoming increasingly complex and multi-layered, the Bachelor's degree program in Communication Psychology at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences offers a unique combination of basic psychological knowledge and application-oriented communication skills. The course deals with the diversity of communication processes and their effects on individuals and groups in different contexts - from personal conversations to digital interaction.

Interdisciplinary skills for complex communication requirements

In this practice-oriented degree program, you will develop comprehensive skills in the following areas

  • Psychological fundamentals such as general, social and personality psychology
  • Communication skills in verbal, non-verbal and media-mediated form
  • Organizational psychology knowledge for professional coaching and consulting
  • Expertise in the field of digital media and their psychological effects
  • Scientific methods for empirical research into communication processes

The course combines classical psychological principles with two central application subjects: organizational psychology and coaching as well as the psychology of digital media. In addition, personal skills such as cooperation, social competence, self-management and self-reflection are taught - essential skills for prospective communication psychologists in a time of continuous social change.

Course of study

Your seven-semester degree program is systematically structured and takes you from the basics of psychology to specific fields of application in communication psychology. In the first semesters, you will acquire in-depth knowledge in the various areas of psychology - from general and social psychology to biological and personality psychology. At the same time, you will build up methodological skills in statistics and empirical scientific work.

From the third semester onwards, you will deepen your knowledge of communication psychology topics such as non-verbal communication, interculturality and moderation. You will develop diagnostic skills and learn how psychological concepts can be applied in practice. In the fourth and fifth semesters, you will expand your skills in coaching, group leadership and rhetoric and apply theoretical knowledge to practical contexts.

In the fifth semester, you choose a specialization - either organizational psychology and coaching or psychology of digital media. This specialization continues in the sixth semester with a professional internship and in the seventh semester with further in-depth modules. The degree is completed with your Bachelor thesis, in which you work on a topic of your choice and demonstrate the skills you have acquired.

Communication and organizational psychology consulting
You analyze communication structures in companies and design change processes in organizations. You moderate team processes, accompany projects and develop (digital) training programs. With the help of your psychological expertise and social skills, you will design communicative and organizational contexts in which the flow of information and collaboration function constructively.

Team and management coaching

Team and management coaching
You support managers and teams in expanding their communication skills. You accompany their professional change processes by using systems psychology questions and techniques. With your understanding of group dynamic processes and discussion management, you promote an appreciative and effective communication culture.

Media psychology consulting

Professional specialization in the Master's degree course
You deepen your scientific and professional skills by completing a Master's degree course at a university of your choice in various areas of psychology such as work and organizational psychology, educational psychology, media psychology or health psychology(please note: it is not possible to complete a Master's degree course in psychotherapy/clinical psychology).

Usability and user experience design

Usability and user experience design
You research the needs of users of digital applications and design intuitive user interfaces. You carry out user tests and develop recommendations for optimization. With your expertise in perceptual psychology and human-machine interaction, you ensure user-friendly and appealing digital products.

You will develop psychologically sound digital learning opportunities and educational concepts. You design interactive learning environments and evaluate their effectiveness. With your understanding of educational psychology and media-mediated communication, you will create motivating and effective digital educational formats for different target groups.

In a company's HR department, you ensure that new employees are well received and that existing employees want to stay. You use psychological tests and methods to analyze and develop employees' skills. With your knowledge of stress, resilience and health, you help to create a supportive working environment and empower employees.
