to be filled for a limited period until 31.10.2027 .

The "Study Success KOM³" project at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) aims to increase student success through the targeted promotion of study, digital and problem-solving skills. The focus is on innovative, interdisciplinary learning arrangements that prepare students from all disciplines for the demands of the digital transformation. The core objective is to reduce dropouts, promote equal opportunities and remove barriers to accessing educational opportunities. A particular focus of the project is the implementation of adaptive learning formats that can be flexibly adapted to individual learning needs and promote basic digital skills. The use of an AI-supported learning companion is intended to set the course for personalized learning support. The project integrates computational social science (CSS) approaches to strengthen data-based methodological competence and data literacy. By combining social science and data science perspectives, students are enabled to professionally evaluate digital data and make evidence-based decisions. The project thus contributes to sustainably securing the demand for skilled workers in Saxony and supports the regional economy by training digitally competent graduates.

The sub-project "HSZG-KI-Buddy" focuses on the conception, development and testing of an AI-supported learning companion, which is intended to provide students with individual and low-threshold support during their studies. The AI-Buddy is to contain advisory elements, learning recommendations and pre-boarding formats and, in particular, help to break down barriers for students with increased support needs.

The position includes the following tasks in particular:

  • Analysis:
    • Identification of relevant requirements,
    • Determination of relevant training data,
    • Consideration of the interests of different user groups,
    • analysis documentation,
  • Conception:
    • Evaluative comparison of existing products, also based on product tests,
    • Reasoned recommendation for a product and its configuration,
  • Configuration:
    • Creation of a usable instance,
  • Commissioning:
    • Monitoring and evaluation of product operation,
    • error documentation and rectification,
    • continuous further development through improved training data or modified configuration.

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • Completed scientific university degree in the STEM field,
  • Skills in training, configuration and use of AI products (LLM),
  • Linux operating system skills,
  • Understanding of pedagogical concepts and methods and the ability to develop teaching-learning formats that effectively support students' needs and learning objectives,
  • Ability to develop creative solutions and pursue innovative approaches to education,
  • Flexibility and resilience in a dynamically evolving project environment,
  • Ability to communicate with various stakeholders in an appropriate manner.

In addition, the following are desirable

  • Familiarity with universities and university processes,
  • pedagogy or didactic skills,
  • Knowledge and experience in project management,
  • a working knowledge of English.
