Research Assistant (m/f/d) for Building Energy Supply - Reference: 41-2025 BSH 1 -

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences | Application deadline: 03.09.2025

At the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz, Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management, within the framework of the joint project "Energy supply of palaces, castles and manor houses based on renewable energy sources (BSH)" funded by the ERDF/JTF research guideline InfraProNet 2021-2017 (part research and development projects), a position (40 hours/week) is available at the earliest possible date, subject to the provision of funds, as a

Research assistant (m/f/d) for building energy supply
- Reference: 41-2025 BSH1

to be filled for a limited period until 30.06.2028.

In the BSH project, possibilities for the use of renewable energies for the supply of historically particularly valuable buildings such as castles, palaces and manor houses are being investigated. In particular, obstacles relating to monument protection and economic constraints need to be overcome. Traditional forms of heating must be abandoned and new tasks in air conditioning must be mastered. Thermal-hygric building conditioning replaces the previous separation of ensuring thermal comfort and preventive conservation. BSH-specific systems need to be designed.

The work includes the following tasks in particular:

  • Design of hybrid energy supply systems for listed buildings such as castles, palaces and manor houses based on renewable energies,
  • thermal-energetic building simulations using suitable software,
  • Testing of suitable configurations in the laboratory and in the field,
  • interdisciplinary collaboration with energy engineers, building physicists and external partners,
  • Contribution to project milestones, reporting and knowledge transfer (seminars, publications).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • scientific university degree related to the above-mentioned field of activity, for example in the fields of energy engineering, building services engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science,
  • practical experience in thermal-energetic building simulation (e.g. TRNSYS),
  • knowledge of the use of renewable energies in the electricity and heating sector,
  • familiarity with historical buildings and their special building physics features,
  • analytical thinking, diligence, reliability and ability to work in a team,
  • very good written and spoken German and a good command of English.

In addition, the following are desirable

  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling),
  • Experience in project acquisition and the publication of scientific results.

What you bring with you

  • Independent, conscientious, systematic, analytical and team-oriented way of working,
  • high motivation, flexibility, creativity and interdisciplinary thinking,
  • an interest in scientific tasks and a willingness to pursue personal and professional development opportunities.

We offer you

  • an interesting and challenging field of activity,
  • flexible and family-friendly working hours within the framework of the applicable service agreement,
  • Development opportunities through targeted training and further education,
  • Social benefits (company pension scheme, annual special payment, capital-forming benefits),
  • company health management with offers for workplace health promotion
  • and the opportunity to use a job ticket.
