The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship in the Faculty of Social Sciences as soon as possible in the field of

Social Work with a focus on Intersectionality and Inequality

- Reference Number: SW-114 -

on a full-time basis.

The future incumbent will hold the above-mentioned faculty position, with the following areas of focus:

  • Social inequality and intersectionality in the theory and practice of Social Work,
  • Social group work as a method in organizations of Social Work.

The position holder (m/f/d) is expected to teach introductory courses on Social Work as a discipline and profession, such as methods of practice or internship supervision. The aforementioned areas of focus should also be applied in an advisory capacity in professional practice.

Teaching responsibilities are to be carried out in lectures, seminars, workshops, internships, and projects, as well as in continuing education programs, in both German and English. Where appropriate, the incumbent may be required to teach classes / courses in areas related to the field of appointment.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee is expected to conduct independent research and development in the field of appointment, actively contribute to the internationalization and further development of the discipline, and assume responsibilities in academic self-governance. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be actively involved in applied research projects and in the areas of technology and knowledge transfer.

Appointment Requirements

Requirements for appointment include a completed university degree, demonstrated pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, a special aptitude for scholarly work—typically evidenced by a doctoral degree or equivalent scholarly achievements— as well as outstanding achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods gained through, as a rule, five years of professional experience, at least three of which must have been gained outside the higher education sector. Research experience and experience with quantitative methods are desirable.

Reference is made to the Law on Universities in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Higher Education Act—SächsHSG) of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. 2023 No. 12, p. 329).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • A completed university degree in Social Work, Sociology, or Educational Science with a focus on social work/social pedagogy or a related discipline is required.
  • Proof of special aptitude for in-depth, independent scholarly work is generally to be demonstrated through an outstanding doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • The candidate’s professional career must demonstrate a clear connection to the content and responsibilities of the professorship.
  • The future incumbent will focus on fostering our students’ professional identity, imparting relevant subject knowledge, and fostering an understanding of the specific phenomena of the discipline (pedagogical and didactic aptitude), and must demonstrate relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience in applied research and knowledge transfer,
  • as well as experience in the design, establishment, and accreditation of degree programmes and in securing external funding, are considered advantageous.
