"Cooperating beyond borders in central Europe to make our cities and regions better places to live and work." This guiding principle describes the intention of the INTERREG CENTRAL EUROPE program and stands for interregional cooperation between the countries of Central Europe. In the 2014-2020 funding period, the program has a budget of 246 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The focus of this funding lies in the areas of innovation, transport,CO2 reduction, environment and culture.
The AMiCE - Alliance for Advanced Manufacturing in Central Europe (INTERREG CENTRAL EUROPE CE1064) project is being implemented with the help of financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Saxony.
Innovative manufacturing technologies are an important driver for the manufacturing industry and of central importance for employment and growth in Europe.
The AMiCE project is helping to ensure that these manufacturing technologies are recognized as a key factor in the competitiveness of the European economy.
The project has three global objectives:
- Promoting investment
- Increasing competitiveness
- Improving the transfer of knowledge
AMiCE, led by Chemnitz University of Technology, aims to promote additive manufacturing in Central Europe and support the application of modern technologies according to the principle of the ecological product life cycle. The project connects five innovation centers with regional partners from Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Italy and the Czech Republic. These regional tandems are represented by business-promoting institutes and leading universities as well as the Leitat Technology Center in Spain, which ensures the transfer of knowledge.
The project is divided into 3 thematic work packages - it will financially support the establishment of a knowledge platform, a network of joint demonstrators and the implementation of a pilot project. The aim is to strengthen the manufacturing industry in the participating Central European countries and their capacity for innovation. This will be achieved by
- Promoting the introduction of innovative manufacturing technologies in SMEs,
- Promoting and facilitating the rapid and efficient transfer of knowledge and technology between research and companies,
- increasing the efficiency of innovation promotion and the development of an ecological product life cycle for additive manufacturing.
The tasks specifically for the HSZG lie in the development of additive manufacturing strategies and the creation of a knowledge platform in the context of additive manufacturing and the ecological product life cycle.
AMiCE aims to reach more than 1,200 SMEs in Central Europe and support 300 of them in the introduction of new manufacturing processes. At the same time, the SMEs will be shown possible solutions for the use of additive manufacturing.
The approval of the project, which will run from 2017 to 2020, will enable the sustainable development of additive manufacturing technologies in the coming years.
