At Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, a position (40 hours/week) is available as soon as possible under a temporary replacement arrangement for a
Laboratory and Teaching Assistant (m/f/d) — Reference: Ecology —
on a fixed-term basis for the duration of the substitution until August 31, 2024; an extension may be granted if necessary. The position may be split.
The position involves the following duties in particular:
- Management of the laboratories in the appointment area “General, Experimental, and Applied Ecology” and serving as the safety officer for the laboratories of the “Ecology and Environmental Protection” division,
- Organizing, instructing, supervising, and evaluating laboratory, field, and outdoor experiments as well as field trips, including the development and updating of the necessary teaching and lab materials,
- Conducting seminars and exercises in accordance with § 78 of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) (lecturer with a specified function),
- Independent teaching of individual modules in the field of vegetation science/field ecology in consultation with the faculty, as well as
- Supporting the faculty with administrative tasks.
The following knowledge and skills are required
- A completed, preferably scientific, college degree in applied ecology, biology, or a field related to the above-mentioned area of responsibility, or comparable qualifications,
- Knowledge of the practical implementation of regulations regarding laboratory safety, health, and fire safety,
- Knowledge of the theory and laboratory practice of population genetics,
- Knowledge of botany,
- Knowledge of—or a willingness to acquire knowledge regarding—the academic curriculum and administrative processes of the faculty’s teaching operations.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- several years of relevant professional experience,
- pedagogical knowledge and experience in the scientific field, as well as in the development of teaching and informational materials and experimental protocols,
- knowledge of university business processes, as well as
- practical foreign language skills (English).

- organizational skills,
- a willingness and interest in furthering your professional and personal development.
Salary is based on pay grade 12 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications (with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience).
