HSZG top in the education of foreign students!

According to the "Profile data on the internationality of German universities 2016", the HSZG occupies the top places.

The proportion of international students at the HSZG has always been above average compared to other universities of a similar size. As can now be seen from the current "Profile data on the internationality of German universities 2016", a study published jointly by the DAAD, the HRK and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation on this topic, the proportion of foreign first-year students at the HSZG in the 2014 academic year, at 11.2%, was once again significantly higher than the Germany-wide proportion of 3.8% in the same reference group (4th place among 57 universities of applied sciences with up to 5,000 students). The regions of origin of HSZG students are Europe (78.5 %), Asia (13.5 %), Africa (6.2 %) and South and Central America (1.8 %).

Even if a high enrolment rate is initially positive, it only becomes clear after graduation whether this is also reflected in the number of graduates. Unfortunately, experience has shown that the risk of students dropping out is particularly high among foreign students for a variety of reasons. For this reason, the HSZG has developed various close-knit support services in recent years in order to reduce the increased risk of dropping out. The results of the DAAD/HRK study on the groups of students who leave the HSZG after successfully completing their studies with a Bachelor's degree show that these offers are increasingly successful: At 17.9%, the proportion of foreign graduates here in 2014 was higher than at any other German university in this reference group.

In addition to the goal of increasing the number of students and graduates in general, the HSZG is also working on implementing another important objective from Saxony's 2025 university development plan: Saxony's potential for new students alone will not be sufficient to meet the demand for skilled workers in Saxony. For this reason, it must continue to be possible to attract students from other states and countries to study successfully in Saxony. The corresponding accompanying offers and their expansion are therefore important instruments for achieving these goals.
