The thesis was recognized as the best Bachelor's thesis in the field of gender and diversity research in Saxony.
Once again, a final thesis by a student at our university has been awarded the Marianne Menzzer Prize as the best Bachelor's thesis in the field of gender and diversity research in Saxony.
It is the Bachelor's thesis by Melanie Forchmann, a graduate of the Childhood Education course in the Faculty of Social Sciences, entitled "The significance of labeling in the everyday pedagogical work of daycare facilities". This empirical thesis was written under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Andrea Eckhardt.
The award ceremony took place in the historic hall of the Villa Tillmans at Leipzig University, whose rector, Prof. Dr. Beate Schücking, gave an introductory speech. The award ceremony, which is endowed with 500 euros, was fittingly framed by the opening of the event by the Minister of State for Equality and Integration, Petra Köpping. After a lecture on "Diversity in child daycare" by Prof. Dr. Andrea Eckhardt and the laudatory speech for the award winner, the state chairwoman of the GEW, Ursula-Marlen Kruse, presented the certificate to Ms. Forchmann.
The Marianne-Menzzer-Prize is awarded by the GEW Landesverband Sachsen for outstanding theses that deal with a topic from gender and/or diversity research. The prize was named after Marianne Menzzer, a women's rights activist and collaborator of Louise Otto-Peters. Marianne Menzzer, born in Halle in 1814, worked in Saxony for a long time and died in Dresden in 1895, was one of the first women - women's rights activists! - who used statistical material to argue women's issues. In this respect, the name Marianne Menzzer Prize is a tribute to a committed woman who sought to shed scientific light on one aspect of gender relations, namely the question of gainful employment.
