Project week at the HSZG

Pupils from Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Löbau became researchers at the HSZG.

From September 2 to 6, the 11th Science Project Week took place at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Löbau. Fourteen students explored exciting experimental topics in the STEM faculties at the HSZG:

  • Let Yourself Be Carried Away—An Experimental Study of Fluid Flow
  • How fibers are extracted from plants and processed
  • Programming a robot platform with omni-wheels in a maze
  • Automation in everyday life
  • Zeolites—small crystals with a big impact

The 9th-grade students worked in small teams to prepare lab experiments, analyze the data they collected, and draw conclusions from it.

On the final day, each team presented its project topic to an interested (specialist) audience using a poster and a projector presentation.
The HSZG’s Rector, Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, also personally conveyed his greetings and shared that, as a student, he was introduced to engineering through hands-on activities and went on to study it.

The student teams giving presentations confidently shared their technical experiences and insights. A jury consisting of students, teachers, and HSZG representatives awarded prizes for the most compelling presentations and good poster work, and also recognized exceptional individual achievements.

A heartfelt thank you to the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, who provided book vouchers totaling 100 euros for these awards.

Special thanks also go to all university staff members involved in the laboratories, in particular: Matthias Jeschke, Felix Rothe, Egmont Schreiter, Michael Sbieschni, Matthias Tirsch, and Prof. Jens Weber.
