Baltic University Programme 2018 Students' Spring Conference

28 May - 1 June 2018, Großschönau/Zittau, Germany

Innovation for Sustainable Development: Resource and Energy Efficiency in Production and Transportation, organized by the Baltic University Programme (BUP), Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

The goal of the Conference is to contribute to learn and discuss about the role of technological and social innovations for sustainable development. Within the academic sessions, we will focus on resource and energy efficiency issues in industrial production. Here we will shed light on cutting-edge technological innovations in the context of Industry 4.0 and digitalization. In cooperation with Fraunhofer IWU, one of the leading institutes of resource-efficient production of fiber-reinforced polymers, participants will gain insight into current research activities of laboratories, ie with a demonstration of rapidly prototyping 3D-printers. In addition to modern adhesive manufacturing, the following days will be devoted to electro mobility. Participants will get the chance to take part in expert sessions on e-mobility roll-out and can discuss possible resource constraints and social-ecological side effects of this mostly lithium-based technological trajectory. The acacemic sessions are complemented by a field trip to the VW factory in Dresden, where the company produces its eGolf, and various social events. Presentations, group discussions and group works will provide learning opportunities for participants, create a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, and will result in an even stronger BUP network for sustainable development. The conference site is located in a holiday resort amidst the picturesque Zittau Mountains.
