Due to the phase-out of lignite-based power generation, Lusatia is facing considerable economic upheaval. Ideas and concepts are needed on how to strengthen economic power and shape the social transformation process. Federal funding programs and programs of the federal states have been set up for the implementation of the projects. The HSZG participates in various projects as a consortium leader or as a cooperation partner. The Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer, Prof. Raj Kollmorgen, is the central contact person at the university.
