    Contemporary societies are undergoing profound transformation processes which include practically all dimensions of labour, social system and daily life environments, for both individuals and social groups. With the focal research area Transformation Processes in Industry and Society, we address those processes that are so complex in a functional, social and temporal perspective, but also the opportunities they provide for the shaping of our future.

    Our research is focused on transformation processes that result from our University’s regional context. With respect to the increasing global interconnectedness of all the manifold developments, however, it goes much further than that. The image below illustrates [in German] the major areas and focal points of our research.

    It is marked by its practical orientation and strong ties to practical experience partners in our region such as administrative services, companies, and political and civil society organizations. This includes a wide array of activities in consultancy and surveying.

    Having a strong interdisciplinary orientation, this focal research area is interlinked with our expertise area Energy and the Environment on the one hand, and collaborates closely with our institutes Transformation, Housing, and Socio-Spatial Development (TRAWOS)and Health, Ageing, Technology (GAT) on the other hand.

    HSZG is committed to initiating, bundling and linking-up research projects and prospects. Transformations in Industry and Society thus involves several of our faculties.

    Every University member can become a part of this research group, provided they are willing to actively contribute to its development (see below).

  • Working methods and planning

    Fundamental working methods are:

    1    Meetings:

    These are aimed at the organizational and thematic coordination of all activities. A priority is the preparation for joint research projects.

    2    Research colloquium

    These serve to present and discuss project outcomes and themes of interest in the form of lectures, presentation or workshops, and are held once a month during the semester.

    3    Annual session:

    At the end of each year (usually in November), the research group takes a practical approach in the discussion of important academic topics in cooperation with the Institute of Transformation, Housing, and Socio-Spatial Development (TRAWOS).

  • Membership and organization

    Every member of HSZG who holds at least a first degree (usually Bachelor), expresses in writing their interest to engage in our research, and regularly attends to our meetings and events can become a member of our research group.

    Every two years, our members elect a new representative and deputy. Their responsibility is the organization and external presentation of our group, and report once every year on our work.
    Our current representative is Prof. Maik Hosang, his deputy is Prof. Raj Kollmorgen.
