Environmental Management

At the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, environmental protection is taken seriously. We have seized the opportunity and have become the first educational institution in the Free State of Saxony and the first tertiary sector institution in all of Germany to meet the high demands of Regulation (EEC) No. 1836/93 relating to company/institution-level environmental protection.

With its individual elements, the environmental management system constitutes a framework geared to achieving environmental impact target levels derived from the current levels ascertained. The overall goal is to include already existing and functionally proven procedures and processes in the system, augmenting them with necessary aspects of environmental protection.

The establishment of a functioning system of environmental management for our institution serves to bring together and ascertain existing elements for the purpose of ongoing supervision.

The fifth re-validation of our environmental management system (EMAS) took place on 20 and 21 July 2011. We are thus able to look back over twelve years of successful working with such a system.
