Health, Ageing, Work, Technology

The objective of the Institute of Health, Ageing, Technology with its interdisciplinary structure and outreach is the transfer of its findings into the practical world, on the interface between individual and societal ageing processes and existing structures for the provision of healthcare and nursing. Its primary focus are the technical and social opportunities for the assistance of senior citizens and their kin, but also of nursing and medical professionals involved in outpatient and stationary treatment.

The Institute ties in with other successful trans-faculty research collaborations such as the VATI – Building Trust in Assistive Technology for the Inclusion of Senior Citizensproject, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It includes a survey among the ageing population in the Görlitz district on their current experiences with technical aids designed to support an independent living. In doing so, the project identifies barriers that hinder the full enjoyment of such devices and records desires and requests for future improvements. A complementary endeavour is the development of an Online Technology Navigator for comprehensive and neutral information on the assistive technology systems available in our region.
