Baltic University Programme Spring 2018 Students' Conference

BUP's Spring 2018 Students'Conference

28 May - 1 June 2018, Großschönau/Zittau, Germany

Innovation for Sustainable Development: Resource and Energy Efficiency in Production and Transportation, organized by the Baltic University Programme (BUP), Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

The goal of the Conference is to contribute to learn and discuss about the role of technological and social innovations for sustainable development. Within the academic sessions, we will focus on resource and energy efficiency issues in industrial production. Here we will shed light on cutting-edge technological innovations in the context of Industry 4.0 and digitalization. In cooperation with Fraunhofer IWU, one of the leading institutes of resource-efficient production of fiber-reinforced polymers, participants will gain insight into current research activities of laboratories, ie with a demonstration of rapidly prototyping 3D-printers. In addition to modern adhesive manufacturing, the following days will be devoted to electro mobility. Participants will get the chance to take part in expert sessions on e-mobility roll-out and can discuss possible resource constraints and social-ecological side effects of this mostly lithium-based technological trajectory. The acacemic sessions are complemented by a field trip to the VW factory in Dresden, where the company produces its eGolf, and various social events. Presentations, group discussions and group works will provide learning opportunities for participants, create a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, and will result in an even stronger BUP network for sustainable development. The conference site is located in a holiday resort amidst the picturesque Zittau Mountains.

Organizers

The students' conference is organized under the the Baltic University Programme's 2018 German Presidency and will take place in Großschönau and Zittau, Germany. Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. Bernd Delakowitz and his team from HSZG chair the local organizer group which, together with Maria Hejna from the Baltic University Programme Coordinating Secretariat at Uppsala University, will be the main organizer of the conference.

Selection of BUP students

Teachers of BUP courses and/or BUP contact persons at all involved universities are asked to choose students interested in the topic, list them according to their priority, and send the list to their national BUP centre. Students coming from our member and/or participating universities are welcome to apply for participation in the conference. Students from BUP member universities will, however, be given priority. Please note that all students applying should have a recommendation from their local BUP teacher, BUP contact person or their national BUP center.
The national BUP centres will be responsible for selecting a final list of participants from the respective countries. For a list of BUP centres see: http://www2.balticuniv.uu.se/index.php/bup-centres

Please remember to include the email address of every student in the list you are sending to your centre. The students will then receive a task to prepare for the conference. The centres will compile a list according to the student's activity within the programme and deliver it to the BUP secretariat/Maria Hejna for a final selection of student candidates for the conference.
