Second Degree Course

A course of study is deemed to be a second degree course if the student has already completed a course of study in tertiary education. In courses of study with a general selection procedure, admission is limited to three per cent of the available places.

A second degree course is, in general, subject to fees. Currently, these are capped at €300 per semester. This does not apply to postgraduate courses, ie when the first degree was obtained in an undergraduate course (Bachelor).

In two-tier "consecutive" courses of study, continuation of study after an undergraduate degree is usually not regarded as a second degree course.
