Application Procedure

Important information for foreign applicants:

Please note that all our degree courses are taught exclusively in German, except for Information and Communication Management (BSc), and Mechatronics (MEng).

All our 26 undergraduate courses (for students who just graduated from school) begin in winter semesters only. Some of our Master’s courses start in summer semesters. Applications for entry for later semesters will also be accepted.

Applications can be filed from 1 May to 15 July for the year’s winter semester, and from mid-December to 15 January for the following summer semester. We may accept later applications, if there are still vacancies in the course at hand.

Starting with the 2017 winter semester, we partake in the German Foundation for University Admissions’ nationwide service procedure. Applications for our degree course in Social Work must be made online, from mid-May to July 15, 2017 on www.hochschulstart.de/dosv. You can find additional information on your application via Hochschulstart here. [German]

Application period (in the year in which you plan to begin your studies):

  • Summer semester: December (preceding year) - 15 January (only if you are planning to enrol in a later semester or in the first semester of certain Master programmes)

  • Winter semester: 1 May - 15 July

The selection procedure concerning open courses of study and closed-number courses (numerus clausus) are set forth in our Selection Regulations [German]. Places are never allocated by lottery.

For courses of study with admission restrictions (numerus clausus), the 15 July deadline is a cut-off date and must be strictly observed (date of receipt of post).

Applicants who already hold an appropriate secondary school certificate should apply, if possible, by mid-June. Relevant certificates on internships and vocational trainings can be handed in subsequently.

You can check the status of your application on our Web Portal. (username, candidate number, password: date of birth, format DD.MM.YYYY) - tab Bearbeitungsstatus (application status)

Until all vacancies have been filled, we may also consider post-deadline applications for courses with open places.
